Jaime, 2000-2017 — A cat well loved

A small 10-week old, furry gray/black striped bundle showed up on the cabin porch in the middle of a snow storm in Jan 2000.  Maryjane lived in a cabin on 10 acres off East End Road out of Homer, she never did find out where he came from and she knew all her neighbors well after 18 years.

Maryjane and I had met on the ferry moving up to Alaska in 1982 and become fast friends.  So I got to see Jaime as he grew into a lean, 16-pound tom.  MJ moved to Bellingham, WA, in 2006 and Jaime stayed with me and my two cats (Sebastian and Loki) for several months until she was settled.  When she called me in Feb 2008 with the news that she had terminal cancer, I offered to take Jaime.  All three cats got along, but Jaime remained aloof until Sebastian (19) passed away in July 2008.  He then became a one-woman cat – following me around the house and yard, snuggling at night, and I never had an empty lap.  However, he disappeared whenever anyone else was around – none of the various pet sitters ever saw him.  Which was why I do not know why/when he passed since it was when I was out of state in April 2017…the pet sitter never did find him he hid so well.  He was on medication for thyroid and complications.

He was a great cat that I had the pleasure of sharing life with for 9 years, and I miss his antics – carting a stuffed snake around meowing when he was looking for me, and especially the meer-cat sitting up on his hind feet when something interested him – for minutes at a time, except when I was trying to snap a shot of course – he was, after all, a cat. — Gwen
