ACAT: Extending a helping paw

The RALLYE Fund

In May 2010 we launched The Rallye Fund, an effort to raise money to help kittens that need help to have a start on a normal life.

While many of the kittens we receive have had rough beginnings -- limited care, earmites, worms, separated from mom too early -- a few have needs that supercede those common problems. And they need special veterinarian and convalescent care to help them lead a normal or fairly normal life.

"Rallye," a 10-week-old black and white male kitten, became our first charity case and our poster kitty after he was bitten by a dog at his birth home. The dog bit through his mouth, breaking his upper jaw. With the kitten's' jaw hanging down, his owner began making calls, which led her to ACAT. While ACAT had no Rallye Fund at the time, we took on the case to help this very sweet kitten live without pain. And operation allowed the vet to reconnect his jaw and sew him back together for healing. Rallye made a full recovery and has been adopted by a couple who are positive that Rallye (aka Roudy) is the smartest cat in the world.

Help ACAT help other special-need cats like Rallye; give to the Rallye Fund.

First donation to The Rallye Fund

Less than a week after Rallye's emergency surgery, we had our first donation to the Rallye Fund, which will help cover Rallye's surgery. The $175 donation was made in the name of the donor family's kitten, Simon, who had a tragically short life. While Simon couldn't be saved from the illness that claimed him, the family has given ACAT the means to help another kittten.

Donating to The Rallye Fund

ACAT, an IRS 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation, is accepting donations to the Rallye Fund. Any amount is appreciated. This is an all-volunteer organization, and the funds you donate to The Rallye Fund will be earmarked to pay for the medical care and related costs of caring for special-needs kittens like Rallye, which will not survive or cannot be homed without special procedures. Initially, it will be dedicated to giving ACAT's adoptive kittens a chance at a full, happy and healthy life at a new home. As the fund grows, we may be able to expand our mission.
